About

Your host at Alaska Sportman's Lodge: Brian Kraft, Owner. In the heart of Alaska’s Bristol Bay region just off the Kvichak River near Lake Iliamna sits the Alaska Sportsman Lodge. If you are looking for the ultimate in all-inclusive Alaskan fishing trips, the lodge offers the perfect retreat from a day of fly fishing and experiencing the wonders offered by this beautifully rugged landscape.  Our beautiful Alaska fishing lodge consists of a 3,500 square foot solid cedar chalet style main lodge, three duplex cabins for guests, the “Iliamna” guest cabin, and a wood burning sauna. The lodge will accommodate 20 exclusive guests per night and all the cabins have hot and cold running water and 24 hour a day electrical service from our generator plant. Though you will be in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness, you will not lack for any luxury accommodations.

Fly-fishing experience at Alaska Sportman's Lodge: We fish by wading, drifting, casting, or plugging. You can fly fish or use conventional gear. There are streams that are designated as fly-fishing only areas and there are rivers that allow either fly-fishing or the use of conventional gear. The type of fishing you do is your choice. Your fishing guide is there to help you as well as educate you about the rivers we fish and which techniques will work the best. They will set you up for some of the best salmon fishing in the world, whichever way you enjoy the most. All of the methods are successful at producing amazing catches during your guided fishing trip. At the Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge, we have the best of both worlds. The fishing is excellent on our “Home” river and we are very close to many “Fly-out” rivers.  Many times throughout the season, especially when targeting big rainbow Trout, the Kvichak is the river of choice to be on. But, throughout the Bristol Bay / Lake Iliamna area there are tremendous fishing opportunities and we want our guests to have the chance to see and experience the beauty and amazing fishing opportunities of this great area. With that in mind, the lodge has its own private float planes and pilots to take guests to different rivers throughout the area for Salmon fishing, Arctic Char, and rainbow Trout.  Click here for quick link country guide.

A typical fly-fishing day at Alaska Sportsman's Lodge: Each evening the lodge manager will discuss the fishing options available to you for the next day on your guided fishing trip. You will then choose which option you would like to enjoy. You may decide to fly-out for the day, go on a float trip for the day, or to stay and fish the Kvichak River right outside of the lodge. If you choose to fish the Kvichak anytime during your fishing trip, your professional fishing guide will use boats to transport you within a seven-mile radius of the lodge. Many times you will be able to see the lodge while you are landing your fish. Your experienced fishing guide will have your boat ready and will be waiting for you on the dock each morning. A typical day fly-fishing Kvichak will be:

  • 6:20 through 8:00 AM Breakfast made to order.
  • You can eat at anytime between 6:20 and 8:00 AM.
  • You will fish until 11:45 AM. You are back at the lodge for a lunch.
  • You are on the river again by 1:15 PM and fish until 5:30 PM.
  • Cocktails and appetizers at 6:00 with dinner at 7:00

If you are on a fly-out for the day, you will depart the Alaskan fishing lodge after your gourmet breakfast and be at a remote location for the day. The guides will have delicious lunches for you and you will eat riverside as you take a break from fishing the clear and pristine rivers.  We do have shore lunches with fresh salmon prepared at some of our locations.  You will be out in the field enjoying the once in a lifetime fishing experience and the beautiful scenery you wont find anywhere else, all day and return to the lodge between 5:15-5:45 PM. We make every effort to ensure that your fishing trip is an experience you will remember for a lifetime.
