Brightwater Alaska

The owner says

The Brightwater Alaska Guided Float fishing expeditions are incredible. They take you throughout the world-famous Bristol Bay Watershed, which is home to an incredible number of rivers that see record-setting runs of Salmon. That description might make you think that you will be battling other fishermen. Nope. This is remote fishing that begins in places accessible only by float plane. What you gain by choosing the Brightwater Alaska group is access to the real Alaska - you not only get great fishing, but close up experience with the wilderness, wildlife, and gain an experience that few others will ever know- Your Float trip is owner led.

About

Your host at Brightwater Alaska: Chuck Ash, Owner and Legendary Guide. The Alaska trips are designed to give you a quality experience from start to finish. The rivers I float are in the famed Bristol Bay watershed, heart of Alaska's sportfishing country. They are all remote, accessible only by floatplane, and flow through some of the finest wilderness left in North America. The trips are timed to coincide with the best seasonal fishing Alaska has to offer. I also believe that there is more to a quality fishing trip than simply great fishing. Good food, relaxing companionship and the opportunity to watch a burning sunset or a feeding moose all add depth to a trip. The rivers I float have been selected for their wilderness values as well as their world class fishing. My equipment is top notch and our meals are prepared fresh daily. Literally 99% of our guiding is for fly fishers, so our skills are very specific and we are highly experienced in this niche.

Fly-fishing experience at Brightwater Alaska: Alaska fishing is not uniform throughout the season. The five species of Alaskan salmon run at various times throughout the summer, and even the resident trout, char and grayling move throughout the rivers systems and change their feeding patterns depending on which salmon are present and what they are doing. Some populations of dolly varden, such as those found in the Goodnews River, are anadromous and are only found in freshwater for the latter half of the summer. Others, like those in the Koktuli River, move out of the larger Mulchatna and into the tributaries like the Koktuli only when the salmon enter the tributary and start to spawn. We specialize in fly fishing float trips, but spin fishermen are welcome. Access to the rivers is by float plane from various southwestern Alaska towns, primarily Dillingham and Iliamna. The guide:client ratio is one guide and 2 clients per raft. We limit party size to 4 clients on public trips and to 6 clients on private party trips. Most fishing is done while wading, with additional fishing being done from the rafts as we float. We camp each evening at riverside and meals are prepared fresh daily. Click here for quick link country guide.
