My fishing trip was from 4th to 7th November 2017 and I had 3 full days of guided fishing. This was my 5th fishing trip with Salvelinus in Pyrenees. I haven't come there for 3 years, so it was a pleasure to meet the old friends. I had an evening flight to Barcelona from Moscow and I spent a night in a hotel close to the Sants railway station. In the morning I was the first person to come to the restaurant to have breakfast as I had a train leaving to Lleida at 8 am. The Ave train is absolutely great, fast and comfortable. It takes just an hour to get to Lleida, and I was there at 9 am. The guide was already waiting for me. After warm handshakes we headed to the river. The guide said that the first day would be all nymphing. At first I was not too excited as this was not my favorite type of fly fishing. This wasn't before that day... In the first hour I have had 3 browns in the net. This was already enough to make my day but I still wanted to hook a trophy. And I hooked it. A beautiful brown jumped out of the water and the next moment I lost it… After a quick lunch we moved to another part of the river and continued nymphing with success. One thing I have been always appreciating at Salvelinus is that every time I fish with them I learn a lot. And even when my casts fail and I can’t do exactly what the guide tells me to, he still can give me confidence in what I am doing. This day we fished a very technical river with trees and bushes on both sides, different currents etc. We entered the water, walked a few meters and approached the current. The guide told me to cast to the bank under the trees to the edge of the current. Well, it was not easy. I tried several times and never ended up making the right cast. I wanted to leave the spot but the guide insisted that I continue trying. Finally he took my rod and made a cast the way he wanted me to do – just a few inches from the place I was fishing but exactly to the edge of the current. Seconds later he had a hard bite, a beautiful rainbow jumped out and broke the 4x tippet… Bravo, Maestro! This was the day which changed my attitude to nymphing. The dinner at the lodge was delicious. I met the owner of the lodge and another guide whom I knew before and who would be guiding me the next day. It was a real pleasure to see them again after 3 years. The next day was not easy and started with cold weather and wind. We made a long way to another river to try dry fly fishing with big attractors, but the fish was absolutely not active. Well, these days happen sometimes… Anyways the scenery was absolutely great! And I had a lot of time to work on my casting The last day was more successful. I finally was lucky enough to hook a trophy rainbow on a streamer. It was a beautiful fish of about 10 lbs. weight. Luckily I was fishing with a 7wt, otherwise it would have been a big challenge to land it. After lunch we tried dry fly fishing. It was a very nice end of the trip with several zebra trouts in the net. Thanks, Salvelinus!
