Black River Hunting Camps

The owner says

If you dream of hunting Alaska’s diverse big game species, you’ve come to the right place! BRHC is a family run business with Master Guide Jake D. Jefferson operating as your guide. Jake has been guiding hunters since he was 19. His work has been featured in Bear Hunting Magazine, Professional Hunter Magazine, and Outdoor Life, as well as several TV shows. Jake’s goal is to provide you with top quality service and satisfaction without getting lost in the shuffle of larger commercial hunting camps. The personal attention to your hunt is second to none. When you hunt Alaska with BLACK RIVER you’ll become a name, rather than a number! BLACK RIVER HUNTING CAMPS specializes in guided Alaska Grizzly Bear hunts in the Talkeetna Mountains of Interior Alaska; eastern shore Kodiak Brown Bear hunts; Kodiak Island Mountain Goat hunts and Sitka Black Tail Deer hunts; Dall Sheep hunts; and Black Bear hunts in some of Alaska’s more rugged and beautiful country. With hunts ranging from the river bottoms of interior Alaska to the snow crested peaks of the Talkeetna Mountains, and the grassy hills of Kodiak Island, let BLACK RIVER ALASKA HUNTING CAMPS take you on a guided hunting adventure that you will never forget.

About

Your host at Black River Hunting Camps:  Jake D. Jefferson, Master Guide. All of our Alaska hunts are considered single species hunt unless otherwise requested. BRHC can accommodate combo hunts for grizzly bear and sheep; grizzly bear and black bear; Kodiak Brown bear and Sitka Black tail deer; as well as Alaska Mountain Goat and Sitka Black tail deer. All of BRHC’s hunts are non-smoking and no alcoholic beverages are permitted in camp. We ask that any perspective clients who do smoke/drink prepare for this accordingly and respect our camp rules.

Hunting experience at Black River Hunting Camps: Grizzly Bears are abundant in the Talkeetna Mountains of interior Alaska. Glassing valleys rich with blueberries and migratory  routes is a sure fire way to encounter these nomadic bears. We hunt game unit 13, that is open to grizzly bear hunting year-round. However the best times for hunting are May, June, August and September when the bear’s hides are still at their prime. We do offer a late July hunt for those wishing to hunt bears on or near and active salmon stream. Our late July, early August hunt for 2005 lasted six hours, resulting in a 7’9” boar being taken by lunchtime. 13 grizzlies were sighted during the six hour hunt. Dall Sheep are the cherry on the sundae of Alaska’s mountains. Backpacking through the valley floors of the Talkeetna Mountains and glassing drainages is the method of these hunts. Hunters will need to prepare to pack 50-65lbs for the duration of their sheep hunt. Spike camps consisting of one man tents create the freedom to relocate should the sheep move or other factors dictate camp locations. Quality WATER-PROOF footwear that is suitable for walking on rocky terrain and side-hilling for extended periods of time is necessary. We also offer mountain goat, sitka blacktail deer and sheep hunts. Click here for quick link country guide.
