Scottish botanists and explorers were at the forefront of their game and returned from far flung places with an array of exotic plants, trees and fruits which grand estates like Errol went bonkers for. Their legacy is awesome.

Throughout the year Errol Park has a colourful garden with a massively diverse variety of plants and shrubs. Spring and summer reveal a riot of wild and cultivated flora. Autumn brings out the tree geek in anyone. No kidding. Anyone.

Around the time of the building of the new house (1875) specimen trees and rhododendrons were planted in the garden and surrounding park land (the “policies”). Augmenting the ancient oaks and yews that existed at that time, the garden now has 3 types of large cedar (atlantica, lebani and deodara), a fine cut-leaved beech Fagus sylvatica asplenifolia, and more recently planted were Cupressus ducloxiana and Cornus contraversa.

The “policies” are dominated by a line of 31 Wellingtonias (or Californian redwoods) Sequoiadendron giganteum and many other magnificent conifers and hardwoods can be seen.
