This is a fabulous location and the shooting is set in a grand building with the shooting areas set out rather formally - this was a favouritte shooting ground for the Russians during the cold War era. We spent two days back-to-back with an anticipated 500 birds each day. However, the shoot was driven from around 0945 and at the end of the first drive we had shot around 300 birds by 1030 - at which point the guy running the day started a discussion regarding overage!! I responded by letting him know that if he has the horn and a counter he is responsible for making sure the shoot is managed by him for a full day of 5 promised drives. It was shame that such a discussion was necessary as it spoiled another wise good day. It diod not happen on day two. It has the effect of not wishing to return again when you suspect that the reason was to create additional revenue having paid handsomely for two days shooting. All in all it was not very challenging.

Having shot Western Europe, I wanted to give Eastern Europe a try. I booked a hunt through Ben Meike of Shooting in Slovakia and certainly was happy with the results. We were met at the airport in Vienna, bringing in our own shotguns was a breeze, and we took a wonderful ride through hill and dale to Chateau Bela, a completely restored, magnificent structure, and our home for the next three days. The rooms were the best I have found in Europe and that is saying something. The staff could not have been more accommodating, and the shooting was fantastic, especially for the American shooter, unaccustomed to the 'high' bird shooting of Western Europe. Here the birds were 20 to 40 yards high or higher, and while challenging to some extent, an average shooter could hit all he wanted, and/or wanted to pay for. There were some excellent drives with challenging birds and some easier drives to make sure the inexperience got their chances as well. Great lunches in the farm house on the grounds. Overall, a top notch quality outing.

A very enjoyable experience with very good driven Pheasant, shoot was run in a very professional and efficient way and the traditional aspect of the shoot added to the trip
