Glenmore Rivers Sporting Estate

Ballybofey, Ireland
Deer, Red deer, Snipe, Woodcock, Grouse, Pheasant, Salmon, Trout

Few Irish sporting estates can rightly assert to be World-class but for one it is a fully justified claim, County Donegal’s Glenmore Rivers Estate. Unique in the quality of the game angling, deer stalking and rough shooting it offers, Glenmore goes a step further and into a league of its own.

In excess of sixty kilometres of pristine estate-run rivers teem with salmon and trout while the 24,000 acres (10,000 hectares) of shooting ground is home to herds of Red deer. Throughout the winter the hillsides and bogs provide unrivalled woodcock and snipe shooting; the numerous lakes give opportunities for outstanding duck shooting and trout fishing.

Centred around a luxurious lodge which offers the best of Irish hospitality, Glenmore comprises a huge swathe of the Glenfinn Valley, in the shadow of the imposing Blue Stack Mountains. In this desolate landscape, close to Europe’s most westerly Atlantic coastline, amongst the peat-bogs and mountain loughs of this pristine land, streams tumble through a myriad of waterfalls and rocky pools, joining to become one of Europe’s finest salmon fisheries, the River Finn; and it is to these nursery streams that up to ten thousand salmon return annually to spawn.
The sprawling Glenmore Estate offers an unrivalled spectrum of sport over twelve months of the year.

For generations this sport was reserved for the owning family and their friends, now it is available to you.

Fresh runs of salmon enter the river on every spate, from before the season opens on March 1st until well after the last day of the season in mid-September.

By the time the rods are packed away for the winter, the stalking season has already been open for two weeks, going on to offer exceptional sport until the end of February.

At year’s end, while salmon are spawning in the rivers, the full-moon and hardening weather heralds the arrival of the woodcock and snipe. Add to the migratory waders the occasional grouse on the hills and the ducks flighting to our lakes and the quality and range of our rough shooting becomes apparent.

February offers our staff a brief respite before the cycle begins again with the start of the fishing season.

Pick your quarry and choose a month and let us plan a sporting break which will be the envy of those you leave at home.

Glenmore offers 24,000 acres (10,000 hectares) of shooting including stalking for Red deer, World-class woodcock and snipe over pointers and spaniels or duck flighting on mountain lakes. Throw into the pot the occasional walked-up grouse, mountain hare, pigeon or pheasant and you get a sense of the variety of shooting available to you here.

Under the expert guidance of two of Ireland’s most experienced stalkers and game guns, with their teams of beaters and dogs, guests will be treated to sport of an exceptionally high standard.

The emphasis is entirely on wild birds, we don’t rear and release. If, because of the vagaries of climate, birds aren’t there in sufficient numbers we can take guns to a neighbouring estate for driven pheasant and duck shooting.

The day’s bag will usually be transformed into game-culinary delights by the Lodge chef, with venison and woodcock regularly featuring on the menu.

Rifles and shotguns can be rented from the estate or guests may bring their own. Properly trained and controllable gundogs are also welcome.
