North Stainmore, United Kingdom
Partridge, Geese, Woodcock, Teal, Grouse, Pheasant, Duck

The special topography of the estate and quality of the woods and habitat mean that it is ideally suited to offer a wide range of sporting opportunities. We can offer walked up and driven grouse from 12th August, wonderfully challenging partridges and duck from 1st September and pheasants from October onwards.

Our grouse days are particularly suited to those looking for modest but challenging days. The Helbeck game books are littered with entries of those that have shot their first grouse at Helbeck and every year a few more names are added to the list.

The “white ground” on the edge of the moor provides a perfect habitat for French or “red-legged” partridges. Most of our partridge shooting takes place in a deep valley which provides fantastically sporting birds. An average bag for a partridge day is 250 head although we can arrange both larger and smaller days as required.

The extensive number of ponds on the estate mean that we can offer dedicated duck days, although more often, our clients like to include a duck drive or two within a pheasant, partridge or grouse day. Our “high duck drives” are especially popular with clients looking for a real challenge.

The latter half of the year tends to focus on pheasants. The very varied topography on the estate means that we can offer a wide variety of birds to cater for all tastes and abilities. Our winter bags often include migratory woodcock which are frequent visitors to the Estate.

Most shoot days begin at the Hall with a welcoming cup of coffee and a briefing from the Head Keeper. We normally break for lunch at midday but arrangements can easily be made for clients wishing to “shoot through” in which case a midday cup of soup will normally be provided. In the summer and autumn lunch is served “on the hill” in a traditional stone field house. In the winter months the party returns to the Hall for lunch which is served in the old Billiard Room. The day ends with tea and cakes back at the Hall, an opportunity to discuss individual successes, sign the Visitors Book and tip the keepers.

We are very flexible in relation to both the kind of day that we can offer and the number of guns. We can cater for anything from a small walked up outside day to a 400 bird driven day that includes a bit of everything. Just let us know what you are after and we will do our best to match it.
