I have just returned from the Lairg Estate, had a wonderful week's fishing. The lodge has undergone great improvements, a wonderful new Dining room, redecorated sitting room, and modernised and some new bathrooms. The ghillie has done a wonderful job on the river, lots of strimming, new piers and general clearing making it much easier to fish. The girls in the lodge are charming and make you feel very welcome. The variety and beauty of the many pools is unparalleled. Really worth a visit.

I have been fortunate enough to stay at Lairg Lodge on a number of occasions and fish on the Upper pools of the River Shin, from July through September and the comfort and facilities are of the highest standards and quality, both at the lodge, but also on the whole of the Upper Shin. Possibly one of the most comfortable lodges in the highlands, combining with some of the most fabulous, testing, sporting salmon fishing you could wish for. The lodge location, vistas, bedroom and bathroom comforts make for such a restful stay. The main reception rooms are so comfortable and each has the most spectacular views across Loch Shin and beyond. For family holidays you are ideally located to all the principle venues and amenities in the highlands and along the north-east coast line. For fishing parties, everything is catered for on one of the most special highland rivers. I can recommend Lairg Lodge as one of the best and most enjoyable must stay Scottish venues.

Lairg Estate is perfect for either an experience angler or a novice. The river isn't too big, it's very beautiful and there are plenty of fish to see - even if you don't always catch one! The Lodge has a lovely atmosphere, the bedrooms are very well appointed, it's a home from home and extremely comfortable. I would recommend Lairg Lodge very highly and in addition it's well positioned if you like playing golf!

If you want to get away from all the hustle and bustle of life, then look no further. Even if don't want to take part in the activities. Then Lairg would be a perfect place just to chill out and relax. Take your camera the views are stunning.

I have been fortunate enough to stay at Lairg Lodge and to fish the Shin on a number of occasions - and have never had a blank visit! The location is fabulous, the lodge extremely comfortable and knowing that there are fish in the river and that conditions will be near perfect is all that is needed you get you out of bed for that pre-breakfast session. This has to be high on the list of 'go to' destinations in Scotland!

The beauty of the river shin is that you will always have water via the controlled flow from the little loch shin, that means no praying for weeks before a fishing trip for rain (usually planned a year in advance),the river and surroundings are picture perfect and you can fish from dawn till dusk without meeting another person. The accommodation in Phil's is second to none, sleeping up to 8 people, we normally are in a party of 6 and have plenty of room for the adults and up to six dogs who have there own hall / reception with floor to ceiling glass where the can bask on the underfloor heating when they are not on the river, Lairg it'self has shops and a pub where the locals are very welcoming and a chip shop when you don't want to cook, The shin is not a classic fly water but has rough rumbling water where you can hook a fish in any part of it on a skated sunray (heart stopping when you can see the follow and take)Alick the ghillie will tell you DONT walk past ANY pool. Tight lines, it's a wonderfull experience if you've never been.

I have been visiting Lairg for many years, as a keen fisherman and golfer. The facilities in the lodge have been developed and vastly improved over the years, banishing the usual cliches about draughty, cold uncomfortable lodges. The local sporting attractions for golf, and especially the fishing on the Shin make for the perfect break, I thoroughly recommend that you visit Lairg, the lodge, and the other cottages/ houses will make you feel very much at home.

We had a fabulous week at Lairg in September. The lodge is unrivalled in terms of comfort - every single member of the party commented on how comfortable the beds were. The housekeeper is fabulous and the ghillie is so knowledgeable and such a help with beginners. We fished hard and were rewarded with an abundance of first fish and one over 20lbs. We have already booked again for next year!
