Achnasheen, United Kingdom
Red deer, Trout

EXPERIENCE THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS Letterewe Estate is a great sporting estate stretching over four deer forests, and you may wish to experience a week stalking. You can fish for wild brown trout in wild and lovely hill lochs. Among these lochs you will enjoy some of the most famous wild trout fishing in Britain. Fishing is possible from the bank of most lochs, but you can also fish from boats with one of our skilled and friendly keepers. Fly fishing is the tradition of the estate and the keepers are happy to teach beginners the rudiments. Spinning is allowed on the smaller hill lochs.
The Scottish Highlands are home to the Red Deer where they live in their natural habitat among the wild, rugged hills and mountains. Red Deer are the largest wild deer in the UK and one of our native species. Deer stalking in Scotland has centuries of history and tradition behind it. As part of our management of the open range deer population, we shoot a number of stags through traditional stalking parties with guests. Our objective is to cull out the old or less strong adult stags rather than trophy heads. Letterewe Estate has also maintained the tradition of using Highland ponies to retrieve stalked deer home to the larder to be prepared for collection by the venison dealer. A day on the hill can be a truly memorable experience in the company of your professional stalker, ghillies and ponies.

Besides Letterewe we can offer Ardlair Lodge. Ardlair Lodge is situated on the north shore of Loch Maree with its stunning views over the loch towards the Torridon Mountains. Ardlair Lodge has huge windows to look at the breathtaking views or watch the deer grazing the fields in the evenings. Activities to do:
Fishing by boat on Loch Maree, Loch Kernsary and Fionn Loch, which is Scotland’s finest for brown trout. Boat included. Fishing hill lochs from the banks. Hill walking.

Letterewe can be booked for stalking during September and October.
For fishing, walking and leisure Letterewe and Ardlair can be booked all year round.

There are numerous things to do and see in the area, like places of historic interest. In the town of Gairloch is a nine hole golf course, certainly the only one in the world where you can see “over the sea to Skye”. There is also an unique and delightful Heritage Museum, which reconstructs the life and history of the local people. The warm gulfstream, which makes fish so abundant, also provides the climate for the sub-tropical plants that grow in the world-famous Inverewe Gardens.

A beautiful and unspoiled last wilderness in the Highlands. A stalking experience that I will always remember. A wonderful house and breathtaking panorama.

Letterewe is one of those gems that cannot be missed if you love Scotland. The scenery is breathtaking, don’t forget to cast in the loch in front of the house to catch a lake trout. Food is so good, stalking superb, taking a bath in bathrooms with carpet on the floor (classical!) and last but not least staff so friendly, helpful and professional: it’s all you can wish for. Really, Letterewe… it doesn’t get any better! Strongly recommended to relax, fly-fish, stalk and of course hike! Great for families, a group of friends or just for the two of you…

I am hesitant to write about this place: a hidden gem you wouldn't want to tell anyone about. You cross with a boat to the main lodge and arrive at a stunning house in a breathtaking setting. The variety of the stalking is great and there are plenty of red deer. Not that easy to approach though but therefore even better sport. The accommodation is luxurious and the staff very friendly.

Our stay at Letterewe was amazing. The drive up there and the boat across Loch Maree adds to the magic. Enjoying the surroundings and stalking was truly 'an experience of a lifetime'. Everything was organised very well and the house was perfect. We are definitely coming back. Bringing a fishing rod next time!

Breathtaking scenery, exciting stalking, utter isolation, comfortable house with great views over the lake. The stalkers are very friendly and it is hard work to walk and stalk in the hills surrounding Loch Maree. A very exclusive spot and I am almost reluctant to recommend this place to anyone as not to spoil it!
