The name "Maakeyolhu" meaning Head Fisherman in our local language Dhivehi is a name which was well thought out and brought to it's existance. We are proud Maldivian fishermen and we always wanted to make our charter as local as possible starting with the name.
How we have become so avid fisherman dates backs to a good 25 years when during our childhood the sea was our greatest getaway to having loads of fun and just chilling in the cool and calm waters around the capital city Male’. Our love for the sea extended from a swim to exploring the surrounding coral reefs while snorkeling and then to actually catching what we saw during those trips. We had been fishing the traditional way of using hand line and catching an array of fish from Tuna, Sword Fish, Wahoo, Sail Fish, Marlins, GT’s, Dorado, Snappers and much more while trawling or baiting.
About seven years ago, we decided to take our interest in fishing to the next level and hence moved on to the more professional way of doing it with proper gear and more importantly in fast boats. It took no time for us to find tremendous fishing spots and increased amounts of fish. This led us to adopting a very alien thing for Maldivians which is catching and releasing the fish. We are proud to note that we are perhaps the first and the only fishing group practicing this in Maldives.
We are exploring the remotest areas which have hardly ever been fished and have found spots teeming with GT's, dogtooth and all the typical aggresive fish who are more than willing to strike a popper or a jig.
Choose your spot anywhere in the Maldives and book a trip with "Maakeyolhu" and get the thrill of a lifetime.
