Carl Smith took over the ground from Roger and Sue Groves in 2004. Carl's devotion to the ground began when he was a trapper here for pocket money in his youth. Never losing that early love of clay pigeon shooting, Carl worked tirelessly to be able to purchase the shooting ground with his brother, Jonathan.
While Jonathan would eventually leave to persue new challenges, Carl continued his never-ending campaign of expansion and improvement, which would, at times, include air rifles, zorbing and even tank driving.
Before long, Carl recruited his partner Linda and together they embarked on the new adventure of running two shooting grounds at once.
In 2012 Carl and Linda took over neighbouring Nottingham Sporting Clays to
expand their trap layouts, as well as introduce Sporting to their list of disciplines. As a result, they have been able to host some of the most prestigious championships on the shooting calendar, including the Down The Line England Selection and the English Skeet British Open.
In 2015 Carl took his devotion to the sport to a new level by standing and successfully being elected as a CPSA National Director.
