Temple House has always provided varied and exciting rough woodcock shooting. The atmosphere is of a ‘yesteryear shooting party’.

~ The woodcock, which is always driven, is a mix of natural woodland on Temple House estate and grounds plus some carefully selected forestry in the area. You will see some lovely country.

~ Snipe is both driven and walked up.

~ Depending on the weather we may also get some duck on Templehouse Lake and Owenmore River – not huge numbers but it is great fun.

It should be remembered that woodcock, snipe and duck are migratory birds and they are very dependent on the weather. Therefore no guarantee as to numbers can, in all fairness, be given. The bag is also dependent on the skill of the guns. Nevertheless we usually see enough for everybody to go home happy!

Temple House Lake has a large population of Pike, Perch, Bream, Rudd, Tench and Eels, which provide excellent fishing for local and visiting anglers. They generally use spinners for Pike at the river mouth or along the reed and lily beds or floats with dead bait ledgered in the deep water during the winter. Recently some good sport has been had fly fishing for Pike on the lake.

The Island shore is a good base for those who don’t mind a 1k walk from the Cloonacleigher road for Pike, Perch or Bream, though the marshes are tricky on the way in.

The bank fishing at the bend of the river at TH bridge is now served by a car park nearby, please do not drive over the field. Pike, Perch, Rudd and Bream are the main fish below the bridge with good Bream 150m up river from the bridge on the east [left] shore.
