South Africa offers the widest range of game species to the sportsman in all of africa. More than 30 species of game can be hunted including several unique and distinctive cape species. Plains game hunting brings more hunters to africa each year than all of the big five combined. Southern africa can boast of more species of mammals than any other place on the globe. Eastcape & karoo safaris specializes in plains game hunts in the eastern cape. With 4 lodges we are able to hunt in excess of 30 species of game covering defferent types of terrain. Our lodges are all in close proximity of each other and this means that there are not too many long uncomfortable daily trips. The uniqueness and size of our concession areas make each day a new experience. Due to our excellent relationship with surrounding landowners we have access to more than 500 000 acres of additional surrounding hunting areas. Our plains game hunting terrain varies from open rolling veldt plains to mountainous thick bush. Each of these areas offers a unique habitat, which is ideally suited to certain of the plains game species and holds it’s own special challenges for the plains game hunter. The hunting techniques that we employ can vary based upon the preference of the hunter. It can range from walk and stalk, to glassing and hunting from a blind with bow and arrow. A client with a disability or anyone whose physical activity is limited by age or medical condition can hunt from one of our well-equipped hunting vehicles. Hunting the thick bush, shots can often be taken well inside 100 yards; the open rolling veldt plains may demand shots out to 300 yards. Encounters with elephant and buffalo are a common occurrence, and you will often hear the call of a distant golden jackal as you enjoy sundowners around the nightly campfire. The vehicles and other equipment we utilize are maintained to the highest standard for we realize the importance of well functioning equipment in remote areas and difficult situations. Vehicles are 4x4 and have been specially fitted with equipment to make life easier in the bush. The best months for hunting are from april through to the end of september; these are our cooler winter months. Daytime temperatures are reasonably warm (up to 18oc/ 65of), with nights being colder (sometimes as low as -4of / 25oc), although temperatures usually remain above 0oc / 32of. We do sometimes get snow. Rainfall occurs only in summer and averages around 400mm (16 ins) per annum. This average has little meaning however as rainfall in successive years can be as low as 150mm (6 ins) and as high as 650mm (26ins).you can try the following:-plainsgame hunts-big game hunts-driven / cull / management hunting-bow hunting-wingshooting seals, dolphins and penguins can be seen throughout the year.the key to a good hunt in africa in africa is planning – plan you hunting safari well in advance! Our hunting safaris offer a great deal of flexibility and we can tailor make anything to suite your preference. The eastern cape & karoo area is malaria and bilharzia free area, so no special heath precautions are necessary. Taxidermywe do not have any financial interests either directly or indirectly in taxidermy either in south africa or internationally.we are however tasked with the processing of permits and documentation for the exportation of your trophies.trophies can be shipped from southern africa either raw or mounted. In the case of a raw shipment it will be sent to a taxidermist of your choice in your country of origin after being thoroughly treated by a south african taxidermist. The regulations and procedures for exporting varies depending on the species hunted. We have chosen karoo taxidermy as our preferred taxidermist for the mounting of trophies in south africa. Their close proximity to our hunting concessions also ensures that our clients are able to take a tour of the operation should they wish to see the process for themselves. Packaging: only one client per crate. This is a new arrangement required by the usa. Important information concerning taxidermy work:trophies must remain in south africa for a minimum of 90 days before shipping.warthogs can cause a delay in shipping if the state veterinarian of the area is not available to issue transport permitsmany problems are currently encountered with delays in the issuing of permits by the relevant government agencies, please bear with us.please note that these taxidermy rates are quoted in south africa’s rand and that the exchange rate could change.shipping costs can only be finalized by the time trophies are dropped off.payment of a deposit to the taxidermist will ensure that your work goes on the production line.no raw rodents may be exportedwarthog must be packed in a separate crate.raw and processed products can not be shipped together.
