Blake and I just got back from Scotland hunting European fallow and red stag! Some folks asked for details on our experience so I'm sending to all as others may be interested. It was a trip of a lifetime and exceeded expectations at a price that's too good to be true. We went as a group of six and took six red stags and five fallow. The stags were all at least "Royal" (12 points) with most being "Imperial" (14 points) and 3 were "Monarchs" (16 point)! I took a Monarch (17 point) and a Fallow for right at $5k usd. That included 2-on-1 guides (1-on-1 for fallow), lodging and food for five nights and six days. We also had to purchase alcohol (there is a pub at the lodging). They have an option to stay in a renovated castle with Four Seasons standard accommodation. Stags and fallow (they have other species too) are free ranging. The hunting varied from very technical spot-and-stalk to easier spot-and-stalk. The guides were amazing and there is game everywhere. The terrain is crazy cool. Felt like we were on Mars at times. Hard to imagine a more beautiful place. Those that have hunted stags in S. America and New Zealand know how expensive these amazing animals are and are now looking at these native iconic animals of Scotland for a better value. I can't imagine these hunts don't start to go up in price as they have just begun going after the American hunting market. The outfitter is Niall Rowantree with West Highland Hunting. His reputation speaks for itself. He'll be at Dallas Safari Club again this January for those who want to meet him. I rarely endorse anything. Just felt compelled to share our 'over the top' experience. Enjoy. D
